Norwegian company Aasen Shipping has placed an order for a sixth hybrid-powered, methanol-ready self-discharging bulk carrier at Royal Bodewes shipyard in the Netherlands. The new vessel, measuring 119.95 meters in length and equipped with a large battery pack for peak-shaving and electric cargo-handling gear, is scheduled for delivery in late 2027. This follows Aasen Shipping's previous orders for five similar 9,400 dwt battery-hybrid self-dischargers between 2020 and 2023. The ship will be capable of zero-emission operations in ports with shore power and is designed to be converted to methanol fuel in the future. Aasen Shipping, based in Mosterhamn, currently operates a fleet of around 15 self-discharging bulk carriers.
