On November 21, 2025, a keel laying ceremony was held at Vard Shipyards in Brăila, Romania for the NB 988, an Offshore Subsea Construction Vessel being built for Dong Fang Offshore (DFO). The event was marked by a traditional coin placing ceremony, symbolizing good fortune and protection for the vessel and its crew. The NB 988, of VARD 3 39 design, will support subsea operations, offshore wind projects, and cable installation. Measuring 121.3 meters in length and 23 meters in width, the vessel will accommodate up to 130 people. The hull is currently under construction in Brăila, with outfitting and delivery planned at Vard Søviknes. The ceremony underlines the collaboration between VARD and DFO in delivering advanced offshore vessels.
