Two prominent Greek shipowners, George Economou’s TMS Group and Thanassis Laskaridis’ Alimia Group, have placed significant orders for Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) at China’s Hengli Shipbuilding. TMS Group has committed to up to four 306,000 dwt VLCCs, while Laskaridis Maritime, the shipping arm of Alimia Group, has ordered two similar vessels. Each new ship is reportedly priced at approximately $118 million. Delivery of the TMS vessels is expected between 2027 and 2028, while the Alimia ships are set for delivery between late 2026 and early 2027. This order marks Laskaridis Maritime’s debut in the VLCC sector and continues its partnership with Hengli, following previous bulk carrier orders. The move highlights ongoing Greek investment in Hengli, with other notable orders from companies such as Dynacom and Capital Maritime in recent weeks.
