On November 4, 2024, Beihai Shipbuilding marked a significant achievement in green shipping with the naming of two 319,000 DWT ammonia-ready Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), ATREBATES and EBURONES, at its Qingdao yard. Developed by China Ship Design & Research Center (CSDC) and built for CMB.TECH’s tanker division, Euronav, the vessels feature advanced ammonia-ready configurations to support low-carbon propulsion in the future. The ATREBATES was delivered seven months ahead of schedule, while EBURONES is set for delivery eight months early. The ceremony was attended by industry and diplomatic representatives, highlighting the event's global importance and China's growing leadership in sustainable maritime innovation.
