Danish towage operator Svitzer has signed a letter of intent with Cochin Shipyard to develop and manufacture a new generation of electric tugs in India. The agreement, announced during India Maritime Week in Mumbai, sets the stage for the production of advanced TRAnsverse electric tugs at Cochin Shipyard’s facilities. This collaboration supports both Svitzer’s global fleet renewal and India’s green port and towage initiatives. Leaders from both companies highlighted the partnership’s significance for sustainability and local supply chains, aligning with India’s Maritime Vision 2030 and 2047. The move comes amid increasing private sector investment in India’s maritime sector, including recent commitments from DP World and APM Terminals.
