Greek shipowner Evangelos Marinakis has expanded his company's shipbuilding activities by ordering two capesize bulk carriers at China’s Hengli Shipbuilding. Sources in the industry confirmed that the 180,000 dwt vessels are scheduled for delivery in late 2026. This move further diversifies Capital Maritime & Trading's extensive newbuilding program, which already includes tankers, LNG carriers, and container ships. The order follows Marinakis’ recent contract for a 306,000 dwt VLCC at Hengli Heavy Industries, as more Greek owners turn to Chinese shipyards for high-end tonnage. The deals reflect growing confidence in both the dry bulk market and China’s competitive shipbuilding sector.
