Greek shipowner Efnav has signed a contract for six kamsarmax bulk carriers at Hengli Heavy Industries, marking its first deal with the rapidly expanding Chinese shipyard. The 82,000 dwt newbuilds, valued at approximately $216m to $228m in total, will be delivered from the second half of 2026. The vessels will feature Hengli’s eco design, meeting the latest IMO emissions standards and EEDI Phase 3 requirements. The agreement, formalized this week in Dalian with Efnav’s founder Philippos Efstathiou and Hengli Group chairman Chen Jianhua in attendance, signals Efnav’s return to the newbuilding market after several years. The Athens-based company currently operates around 15 similar-sized bulkers.
