Svitzer, Cochin Shipyard Sign Electric Tug Order On 31 October 2025, Svitzer signed a letter of intent with Cochin Shipyard in India to build a new generation of electric TRAnsverse tugs.
The agreement outlines collaboration on the design and construction of the vessels at Cochin Shipyard yard facilities, combining Svitzer’s towage experience with local shipbuilding expertise.
The tugs will feature fully electric propulsion to support Svitzer’s fleet renewal and growth markets while aligning with environmental compliance standards.
The deal marks a key step in Svitzer’s electrification roadmap and underscores India’s growing role as a maritime manufacturing hub, leveraging Cochin Shipyard ’s capabilities and the country’s engineering talent and supply chains.
Detailed engineering and regulatory approvals will precede construction, with delivery dates to be confirmed following final design sign-off.
