German shipowner Peter Döhle has placed an order for four new 2,900 TEU containerships at CSSC Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding in China, according to shipbuilding sources. The Chittagongmax-dimensioned, scrubber-fitted vessels are scheduled for delivery between late 2027 and 2028. The order is believed to be part of a fleet renewal program as some of Döhle’s older vessels near replacement age. This follows earlier reports in 2025 linking Döhle to a separate order for five LNG dual-fuel 8,400 TEU boxships at Guangzhou Shipyard International, as well as a recent acquisition of two kamsarmax bulk carriers. Last year, Döhle ordered four 14,000 TEU ships at Hudong-Zhonghua, further solidifying its position in the market. The latest move comes amid a surge in newbuilding activity among major shipping companies, reflecting strong demand for modern, fuel-efficient containerships in European and Asian trades.
