Zodiac Maritime, headquartered in the UK, has become the first client of Samsung Heavy Industries’ newly operated shipyard in Vietnam, marking a significant milestone in international shipbuilding. The company has ordered three conventionally fueled suezmax tankers, each with a capacity of approximately 157,000 deadweight tons, at a price of $80 million per vessel. The ships will be built at the PVSM shipyard in southern Vietnam, a facility Samsung Heavy is developing in collaboration with PetroVietnam. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2028, with options for additional orders. This move underscores the ongoing trend of South Korea’s major shipbuilders expanding their international presence, as domestic orderbooks reach capacity.
