**Svitzer Seeks Shipyards for New Battery-Powered Tug Fleet** Svitzer, a subsidiary of AP Moller Holdings, has announced plans to order four additional battery-driven harbour tugs, capitalizing on previous successes with battery-electric and TRAnsverse design tugs. The Danish shipowner is actively seeking shipyards to construct these eco-friendly vessels, as well as naval architects and manufacturers to supply energy storage and propulsion systems. Svitzer has already experienced the benefits of battery-electric operation with its first tug, Svitzer Ingrid, which has been deployed in the Sound between Denmark and Sweden since Q3 2025. Built by Sanmar Shipyards to Robert Allan Ltd.’s ElectRA 2500SX design, the vessel features a 13-meter beam, 5-meter draught, and a battery capacity of 1,808 kWh. Svitzer Ingrid also relies on generators to drive two Schottel azimuth thrusters, achieving a 70-tonne bollard pull. The company also operates eight TRAnsverse tugs under a previous arrangement with Cheoy Lee Shipyards in China and has seen a 15% fuel efficiency improvement with its fleet in Europe. Svitzer aims to further enhance sustainable operations and expand its innovative tug fleet.
