Zodiac Maritime has made a significant return to the newbuilding market, ordering five 6,000 teu containerships from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard for nearly $400 million. The vessels, conventionally fuelled and priced at $78m–$79m each, are scheduled for delivery starting in 2028, with completion possibly stretching into 2029. While some sources speculate that these ships may be chartered to Cosco, this has not been confirmed. The order closely follows similar vessel designs recently commissioned by Eastern Pacific Shipping at the same shipyard. Zodiac Maritime’s move comes after its previous orders of larger 15,000 teu ships in South Korea, which were later acquired by MSC.
