Saudi shipowner Bahri has placed an order for six geared ultramax bulk carriers at International Maritime Industries (IMI), marking the Ras Al-Khair yard's first bulk carrier newbuilding deal. The 62,823 dwt vessels will cost approximately $203 million in total, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and 2029. The order, financed through internal cash and bank facilities, is seen as a significant step in modernizing Bahri's fleet and supporting Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy. IMI is a joint venture between Saudi Aramco, Bahri, Lamprell, and Hyundai Heavy Industries. The new vessels will allow Bahri to expand into niche and emerging trades, while also serving as a launchpad for the country's first large-scale shipbuilding project.
