NYK Line has announced that NYK Stolt Tankers, its joint venture with Stolt Tankers, has ordered two new large chemical tankers from Nantong Xiangyu Shipyard in China. This brings NYK Stolt's newbuilding order backlog to eight ships. Scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2029, the 38,000-ton parcel chemical tankers will feature stainless steel cargo holds, energy-saving technology, and equipment to receive onshore electricity while docked. These vessels are designed to transport a variety of cargoes, including chemicals and oils, supporting the growing demand for renewable fuels such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). NYK and Stolt aim to modernize their fleet with more fuel-efficient vessels to promote low-carbon shipping and meet the increasing need for chemical transport.
