On September 29, Jiangxin Shipyard in Jiangxi witnessed the successful launch of the first 740-TEU pure electric container vessel for Ningbo Ocean Shipping. This vessel, the largest of its kind globally and a first for China, marks a significant milestone in sustainable shipping. The ship features 10 containerized battery units, enabling zero-emission operations and advanced smart systems for autonomous navigation and real-time situational awareness. Following completion, the ship will undergo further trials and is scheduled for delivery in early 2026. Ningbo Ocean Shipping's commitment to green development aligns with China’s dual carbon strategy, as over half of its fleet now comprises energy-efficient vessels. The launch is expected to optimize fleet operations and contribute to a greener, smarter future for shipping.
