Belgian gas shipowner Exmar is expanding into the crude oil shipping sector with an order for four new suezmax tankers at Daehan Shipbuilding in South Korea. The Antwerp-based company, previously focused on LPG carriers and floating gas terminals, has secured scrubber-fitted vessels scheduled for delivery starting in the third quarter of 2027. The contract, placed at Daehan’s Mokpo yard, also includes options for four additional tankers. Each vessel will be capable of carrying about 1 million barrels of crude oil. Exmar stated the move is motivated by strong prospects in the suezmax market, marking its first entry into crude tanker operations.
