Geneva-based Advantage Tankers has reinforced its commitment to the very large crude carrier (VLCC) sector by placing an additional newbuilding order at South Korea's Hanwha Ocean shipyard. The company, led by Tugrul Tokgoz, exercised an option for a third 320,000 dwt VLCC, bringing its total newbuilding orders to 10 vessels, including four VLCCs. The latest vessel price remains undisclosed, but similar ships ordered earlier this year cost approximately $129.7 million each. The new VLCCs are scheduled for delivery in 2027, adding to one more under construction in China at Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry, due in late 2026. Hanwha Ocean, formerly known as DSME, has seen a surge in VLCC orders this year, including contracts from Hanwha Shipping and Capital Maritime.
