On the night of July 28, a fire broke out at approximately 11:22 p.m. in the underground utility tunnel of Substation No. 1 at HD Hyundai Samho, located in the Daebul National Industrial Complex, Samho-eup, Yeongam-gun, South Jeolla Province. The substation supplies electricity to 33–34 substations across the shipyard. The incident caused a complete power outage.

Fire authorities deployed 62 personnel and 22 vehicles. Access to the affected tunnel was hindered by thick smoke and extreme heat. No casualties were reported, and the fire was expected to be fully extinguished by July 29.

Although the shipyard is currently on a two-week scheduled summer break, which began on July 28, major disruptions are anticipated once operations resume on August 8. Subcontractors still operating during the shutdown may be affected immediately. HD Hyundai Samho convened an emergency meeting, and a full investigation into the cause and damage will proceed after extinguishment.
