Minerva Marine Targets Expansion with Feeder Container Ships
Greece-based shipping company, Minerva Marine, has announced its entry into the increasing trend of feeder container ship newbuildings. The company, led by Andreas Martinos, is taking substantial steps to expand its fleet. Known previously for acquiring secondhand vessels, Minerva Marine has now placed provisional orders for up to eight new feeder ships.
The orders involve two prominent shipyards located in China: Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Huanghai Shipbuilding . Initial plans include the construction of two firm vessels at each yard, with the option to construct an additional two vessels, making a total of up to eight new ships. These ships, each with a capacity of 1,800 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), mark a significant move in the company's strategic expansion plan.
The decision by Minerva Marine to invest in newbuildings reflects a growing industry trend as shipping lines seek to enhance capacity and cater to rising global maritime transport demand. By expanding its fleet with new, modern ships, Minerva Marine aims to reinforce its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving container shipping market.
