Enersense, a Finnish industrial corporation, is set to sell its Mäntyluoto shipyard in Pori to the Canadian shipbuilding group Davie. Known for its offshore oil rig platform specialization, this transaction marks a new chapter for the Pori facility, anticipated to rejuvenate its activities with a focus on Arctic shipbuilding. The acquisition deal between Enersense and Davie is valued at approximately 7.5 million euros, with a payment plan involving an immediate five million euros followed by an additional 2.5 million euros within six months post-closure. The transaction is expected to reach completion by September 2025, transitioning ownership of a site employing around 100 individuals. These employees will continue in their roles under the new management, despite many currently facing temporary furloughs. This strategic move underlines a significant strengthening of the Finnish shipbuilding industry. Once finalized, the Helsinki shipyard will stand as the only specialized shipbuilder in Finland capable of handling projects from design to delivery. The Mäntyluoto yard will play a crucial role, particularly in upcoming large-scale Arctic projects. The integration of the Pori shipyard will enhance the production capacity of both the Helsinki and Canadian shipyards under Davie’s management. This collaboration is expected to substantially support the production and assembly of projects like the heavy-duty icebreaker recently contracted by the Canadian government.
