DryDel has announced the signing of a newbuilding contract for a 64,000-DWT Ultramax bulk carrier with Nihon Shipyard Co ., Ltd., an affiliate of Imabari Shipbuilding Co ., Ltd., one of the respected names in Japanese shipbuilding.
This new contract represents the 10th vessel in DryDel's active newbuilding program, all of which are commissioned with top-tier Japanese shipyards. This aligns with their strategy of investing in high-quality maritime assets.
The newly contracted vessel will be equipped with a fuel-efficient hull design and a compliant Tier III/Phase 3 engine. It will also feature advanced energy-saving technologies such as a Hybrid Fin and a Weather Assisting Duct (WAD), aimed at reducing emissions and enhancing fuel efficiency. The vessel is expected to be delivered by 2028.
In a statement, DryDel Shipping’s CEO, Costas Delaportas, emphasized the company’s commitment to Japanese shipbuilding and its belief in the potential of the dry bulk sector. The CEO highlighted the strategic nature of these investments as part of the company’s fleet modernization efforts, focusing on performance, quality, and sustainability.
