QatarEnergy took delivery of a new LNG carrier during a ceremony at  Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding 's facilities in Shanghai. The event took place on Friday, May 16. The new vessel, named Al Tuwar, joins a fleet that includes sister ships Rex Tillerson, Umm Ghuwailina, and Hlaitan, all handed over in 2024, in addition to Limail, which was delivered earlier this year. These acquisitions are part of QatarEnergy's strategy to build the world's largest LNG carrier fleet. Al Tuwar measures 299 meters in length with a beam of 46.4 meters and a depth of 26.25 meters. It features a total cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. Technological enhancements, such as a twin-skeg design, improve hydrodynamics and aim to reduce carbon emissions. The ship is powered by a dual-fuel diesel engine equipped with an intelligent control by exhaust recycling system. This system reduces methane slip and diminishes greenhouse gas emissions by cooling and recycling exhaust gas. Through recombustion of some of the methane, the ship achieves a further reduction in emissions.
