Japanese Shipyards Collaborate on Eco-Friendly Bulk Carrier On April 23, 2025, two renowned Japanese shipbuilders, Onomichi Dockyard and Tsuneishi Shipbuilding , announced their collaboration on a groundbreaking new 42,000 dwt bulk carrier, the Bingo42. This project merges both companies' expertise to drive innovation in the maritime industry. The name Bingo42 stands for "Beyond Innovation, Navigating Green Ocean," reflecting the shipbuilders’ joint commitment to environmentally friendly technologies. The collaboration aims to address the significant design workload required for the next generation of ships, including those powered by alternative fuels. Taking advantage of their geographical proximity, Onomichi Dockyard and Tsuneishi Shipbuilding are pooling resources to enhance their conventional designs. The Bingo42 design features a length increase of 3 meters over previous models, an optimized hull form, and improved cargo capabilities. These advancements enable notable enhancements in fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Additionally, the new design includes methanol dual-fuel capability, offering a 35% reduction in emissions from the reference line.
