Desan Shipyard has secured a significant contract to construct Malaysia's largest-ever coast guard vessel. The vessel, commissioned by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), represents the agency's ongoing efforts to bolster its maritime capabilities. The agreement was formalized on 21 March in Istanbul, with the total cost of the project reaching nearly USD 69 million. The vessel, scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2027, will enhance the MMEA's ability to address various maritime security challenges. Awang Alik bin Jeman, the secretary general of Malaysia's Ministry of Home Affairs, highlighted the significance of this partnership. He emphasized the mutual commitment of Malaysia and Turkey in tackling complex maritime threats, including incursions by foreign vessels and cross-border criminal activities.
