Onomichi Dockyard and Tsuneishi Shipbuilding have teamed up to develop a new 42,200 DWT bulk carrier named the "Bingo 42." The announcement was made on March 24, 2025, highlighting the companies' joint efforts to address the significant design challenges in creating new vessels with an emphasis on alternative fuels. The collaboration aims to streamline development processes by leveraging the companies' close geographical locations and shared goals to improve efficiencies and enhance competitiveness. The "Bingo 42" represents an evolution of their handy size bulk carriers, featuring a length increase of 3 meters to boost cargo capacity and fuel efficiency. The vessel will include the MT-FAST energy-saving device, enhancing propulsion performance. The design achieves over a 35% reduction from the EEDI reference line and is equipped for methanol dual-fuel capability, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable shipping. Onomichi Dockyard and Tsuneishi Shipbuilding will each manage the structural design, construction, and sales of the vessels while maintaining a unified concept. This strategic approach is set to increase their market share under the "Bingo 42" brand. Motoya Hiroyuki from Onomichi Dockyard expressed satisfaction with the partnership coinciding with new vessel developments. Similarly, Takanori Nishijima from Tsuneishi Shipbuilding emphasized the collaboration’s benefits in fuel efficiency and technology integration.
