Chinese Shipyards Secure Orders for Stainless Steel Chemical Tankers

In addition, Chinese chemical tanker operator Xintong Shipping has contracted four 13,800 dwt vessels from the Taizhou Kouan shipyard. These ships are priced between $22.3 million and $23.4 million each and are expected to be delivered between 2026 and 2027. Two of these vessels have been directly ordered by Xintong, while the other two will be built for Xingtong-IMC Shipping, a joint venture with Singapore’s IMC Shipping. Meanwhile, German shipping group John T. Essberger has exercised an option for two methanol-ready, Ice Class 1A chemical tankers at the Nantong Rainbow shipyard. As previously reported by Offshore Energy, these innovative newbuilds, designed by FKAB, are slated for delivery in 2027 and 2028. They will meet Tier III emission requirements and feature engines capable of running on methanol, reinforcing a commitment to environmentally friendly technologies.
