China Shipbuilding Group Dalian Shipyard has recently celebrated a significant milestone by securing a major contract with NBP, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NYK Line. This agreement marks the shipyard's first major order of 2025 and the inaugural collaboration with a leading Japanese shipowner. The contract entails the construction of a 33,000 DWT deck cargo ship, enhancing Sino-Japanese collaboration in high-tech equipment manufacturing. The signing ceremony was attended by Dalian Shipyard's Deputy General Manager, He Xu, and NBP's Modular Transportation Manager, Toshikazu Hasegawa.
The newly signed deck cargo ship is specifically designed for transporting large modular equipment, classed by the Japan Classification Society (NK) and flying the Panamanian flag. Its spacious deck and high load capacity are ideal for transporting oversized cargo, such as offshore wind power equipment and petrochemical modules, significantly boosting global logistics efficiency. This ship model was developed by the Shanghai Ship Design Institute under China Shipbuilding Group, with Dalian Shipyard in charge of production design and construction. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2027, contributing to NBP's fleet modernization and green upgrade.
NBP, renowned in the fields of modular transportation, project logistics, and bulk cargo transport, is Japan's only operator of heavy lift and deck cargo ships. This collaboration is a groundbreaking venture between Dalian Shipyard and NYK's subsidiary.
