HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), a prominent South Korean shipbuilder, has announced a significant order from the French shipping giant, CMA CGM. The order, valued at $2.6 billion, encompasses the construction of 12 LNG dual-fuel containerships. These new vessels are planned to be delivered by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries with completion dates set by December 2028. The ships are designed to enhance environmentally friendly shipping practices by employing LNG dual-fuel technology. Lloyd’s List has learned that the 15,000 TEU class ships will bolster CMA CGM's existing fleet substantially. Currently, the French company has 72 vessels, totaling 1.1 million TEU on order, accounting for 29% of its existing fleet. This move reiterates the trend of major shipping companies expanding and modernizing their fleets amid a record-high global orderbook. Strategically, this deal solidifies HD KSOE's progress towards meeting its annual order target of $18 billion, reflecting confidence in its capabilities and the continuing robust demand within the shipping industry.
