Prima Marine, a leading Thai shipping company, has announced the signing of a contract for the construction of six new 2499 deadweight ton (DWT) product tankers. These vessels will be built at Ningbo Zhenhe Shipyard and CSTC Shanghai, based on a design by FKAB Marine Design. The agreement was finalized on January 18, 2025. The 73-meter long tankers feature a specialized design aimed at enhancing operational efficiency along the coast and rivers of Thailand. Each vessel includes five pairs of epoxy-coated cargo tanks and a pair of slop tanks. The main propulsion system incorporates a high-efficiency fixed pitch propeller, driven by a bio-diesel-ready four-stroke engine. Enhanced maneuverability is provided by a bow thruster and a flap rudder. The FKAB-designed tankers incorporate a range of energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies. These include the patented low-resistance F-Bow hull form, bio-diesel-compatible engines, a shaft generator, and LED lighting, underscoring FKAB's commitment to innovation in ship design.
