COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers has recently taken delivery of the "Green Rizhao," a state-of-the-art 77,000-dwt general cargo ship. This vessel, certified by the China Classification Society (CCS), is distinguished by its zero carbon emissions, marking a significant advancement in sustainable maritime technology.
The "Green Rizhao" is set to commence its maiden voyage, transporting machinery and containers from Chinese ports to Brazil. This development highlights China's robust shipbuilding industry, which in 2024, accounted for 55.7% of global deliveries and 74.1% of new orders, demonstrating its significant role in the global shipping market.
China's shipbuilding sector has diversified its capabilities, producing a range of vessels including 24,000 TEU container ships, LNG carriers, and cruise ships. Among notable achievements, China Shipbuilding Group signed contracts with Qatar Energy Group for the world's largest LNG carriers, marking a record for the largest single shipbuilding order.
Further emphasizing China's commitment to innovation, the country is pursuing alternative fuel technologies, with its share of such vessels growing from 31.5% in 2021 to 78.5% in 2024. This focus on sustainable practices positions China as a leader in the evolution of the maritime industry.
