Baku Shipyard is nearing the completion of Azerbaijan’s first Damen Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 650, which is set to be operational later this year. The dredger, named Engineer Soltan Kazimov, will be utilized by the Port of Baku, a key transport hub on the western shore of the Caspian Sea, for maintenance dredging tasks.

 This landmark project involves steelwork performed entirely by Baku Shipyard, following a design provided by Damen Shipyards Group. Damen also supplied a comprehensive materials package, which included major components such as the dredge pump and operating cabin. The shipment required 11 trailers and two 40-foot containers for delivery.

The CSD 650 is engineered for stationary dredging at depths ranging from -3m to -18m. With a cutter power of 700 kW, a dredge pump power of 1,825 kW, and a 63m swing width, the dredger is equipped for efficient operations. Its deployment is critical as the Caspian Sea's water level has dropped significantly over the past five years, exacerbated by port expansions, making dredging essential to accommodate increasing maritime traffic.Strategically located, the Port of Baku connects China to the Black Sea and Mediterranean and extends south to the Persian Gulf, solidifying its role as a regional logistics hub.
