Damen Shipyards Group has signed a contract with New Zealand’s Port Otago and Napier Port for the delivery of a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) 1000. This vessel, featuring a length of nearly 60 meters and a hopper volume of 1000m³, is equipped with twin azimuth thrusters and a bow thruster to ensure excellent maneuverability. Both Damen and the ports are committed to sustainability, with the new TSHD designed for sustainable performance, including a ballast water-free operation. The vessel will arrive in New Zealand with a Green Passport, complying with International Maritime Organization (IMO) rules. Port Otago CEO Kevin Winders emphasized the importance of the collaboration for enhancing dredging operations and maintaining safety and efficiency in port operations. The new dredger will ensure the safety of navigation channels for the next generation, aligning with the region's sustainability goals. Damen Regional Sales Director Pim Schuurman highlighted the significance of the new dredger, which complements other vessels in the Australasia region. The TSHD 1000, to be constructed at Shipyard 189 in Haiphong, Vietnam, will replace the long-serving vessel _New Era_ upon its arrival in early 2027, becoming a staple in Otago and Napier Port's fleet.
