Greek shipbuilding group **Onex Shipyards and Technologies** has signed an agreement with **MAN Energy Solutions** to acquire main propulsion engines for its tug newbuilding initiative. This collaboration will see the supply of 40 sets of propulsion engines, including two MAN 16V175D-MM engines per set, each capable of delivering 2,560 kW at 1,800 rpm. **Onex** plans to construct up to 40 tugs over the next five years, underpinned by its recent deal with Canada’s Robert Allan Ltd for the RAstar 2800 design. This production line is valued at approximately €380 million (US$391 million) and aims to enhance Greece's port infrastructure. Panos Xenokostas, president and CEO of **Onex Shipyards and Technologies**, emphasized that the new tugs will deliver crucial solutions for both domestic and international port upgrading. Dionissis Christodoulopoulos, managing director of **MAN Energy Solutions Greece**, noted that **MAN** has observed Onex's growing capabilities in the shipbuilding sector since 2018. The shipyard is also engaging in a revival of the Greek shipbuilding sector, largely focusing on repair services. **Onex**, along with prominent shipowner George Prokopiou, is spearheading this revival with both the Elefsina and Syros facilities re-entering the market. **Onex** has serviced approximately 125 vessels in 18 months and is targeting newbuild vessels, focusing on tugs, specialised ships, and floating generators for windfarms. Additionally, **Onex** has partnered with Greece’s largest ferry operator, Attica Group, to upgrade its fleet with green technology enhancements.
