KARNAFULY SHIP BUILDERS LIMITED

Karnafuly Shipbuilders (Pvt) Ltd (KSBL) having one of the largest privately owned shipyards in Bangladesh was established at Chittagong in 1994. The shipyard is built over eight acres of land, having fully equipped machine shops and 2 slipways each with a length of 650 feet. Two vessels each up to 3,500 tons can be docked at a time. Karnafuly Dry Dock, the only private owned dry dock in Bangladesh is under construction by KSBL which can accommodate vessels up to 80,000 tons. It is to be noted that the government owned Chittagong Drydock can accommodate vessels of 20,000 tons only. It is the only facility for repair of ocean going vessels beside a busy port, Chittagong Port Authority. Therefore after completion of the Karnafuly Drydock, huge capacity for repair of ocean going vessel will be developed in the country. This will facilitate huge foreign currency earnings and will contribute to the national economy.
